To keep you informed of all developments, we will share a new or updated feature every Friday in our “Feature Friday.” This Friday: the use of an API
What is an API and what can you do with it?
API is an abbreviation for Application Programming Interface. In general, APIs define the rules that programmers must follow in order to interact with a programming language, a software library, or any other tool. It makes it easy for those programmers to connect different kinds of systems.
An example: think of an mobile app where the use of your camera is required. The builders of the app didn’t have to program how the camera represents images: instead they used an API that can access the pre-existing framework. In other words: an API allows different systems to connect, communicate and share data.
Nowadays we use a lot of systems and apps. Think about navigation apps, that need data to plan a route or platforms like LinkedIn that need several kinds of data. It is important that data can be shared easily and quickly, by using the right connections. An API makes sure these connections will be established.
API and SmartLockr
Using an API will make different integrations possible. This means that SmartLockr users will be able to work more efficient and safe, by integrating SmartLockr within existing systems. Files that have been send and received safely by SmartLockr will be stored at the right place with different integrations.

Here are some examples:
DMS
Document Management Systems replace paper archives: it’s a system where you can track, manage and store incoming documents. This system brings structure to the large flow of information and makes sure that all the documentation will stay well-arranged in one place.
ERP-system
The Enterprise Resource Planning system refers to a system used by organisations to manage day-to-day business activities. These include project management, manufacturing and accounting. Organisations get to work more effective, efficient, faster and flexible.
CRM-system
A Customer Relationship Management system helps organisations to keep customerdata up-to-date, keep track of all the contactmoments and have all the customerdata in one overview.
So, an API will make sure that your e-mails and messages send with SmartLockr will be stored within the right systems, with the corresponding documentation.
Being able to have an API to integrate within your existing system, increases the user friendliness of SmartLockr. But, this is only one of the many new features SmartLockr has to offer. If you would like to learn more about our product, you can read about our Secure Emailing Solution
